Passing Any Downtime while Traveling Solo
Traveling solo can be an amazing experience, and hopefully you're vacationing somewhere fun and exciting where there's lots of incredible things to see and do.
But it can also mean spending a lot of time alone. Here are some tips on how to pass the time and make the most of your solo travels!
1) Read a book
Bring a book or download one on your e-reader to keep yourself entertained. I love to have my Kindle and I use the Libby app where I can borrow books from my local library, no matter where I'm at!
2) Listen to music or podcasts
Load up your phone with your favorite music or podcasts to help pass the time. Some of my favorites are Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald for fun and frothy pop culture content, and of course I love just about anything in the true-crime genre.
3) Explore the area
Take a walk around the area you are staying in and explore the local neighborhoods. One of my favorite things is to wander around a town and find a local bookstore or a cool coffee shop.
4) Try something new
Be adventurous, step out of your comfort zone and try new activities or experiences, such as taking a cooking class, going on a hike, or attending a local festival.
5) Meet new people
Strike up a conversation with other travelers or locals to learn more about the area. This is usually one of the best ways to find out hidden gems and special places, like the best place in town to get pizza or who has the greatest latte.
6) Relax and recharge
After all, you're on vacation! So use the time to relax, unwind, and recharge. Take a nap, practice yoga, or simply enjoy the scenery around you.
7) Keep a travel journal
Write down your thoughts, experiences, and observations in a travel journal to remember your trip and reflect on your solo travel experience.
When you solo travel, what are the ways you fill the downtime?
